Free PDF editor: add text, drawings, images, and signatures
This browser-based PDF editor lets you place new content over existing PDF pages. Add text for notes or labels, draw freehand marks, insert an image, or place a signature where it is needed. You can also position a white cover box over page content before adding replacement text. The editor is useful for filling out simple documents, annotating a draft, signing a page, or preparing a copy to share without installing desktop software.
How to edit a PDF
Choose a PDF from your device and wait for its pages to load. Select an editing tool, add the desired overlay to the relevant page, and position or resize it using the editor controls. Move between pages with the page panel, review every change, and use Download PDF to save the finished copy. Your PDF is processed in the browser and stays on your device; it is not uploaded to the ToolsNest server for editing. Keep the source file if you may need to start over.
Understand overlays and review your work
The editor places new objects above the original page rather than changing the original PDF text itself. A cover box can hide visible content in the edited view, but it is not a substitute for secure redaction: do not use it to conceal confidential information that must be permanently removed. When you add text, drawings, images, or a signature, check their placement at normal reading size and confirm that nothing important is obscured. The result is a new PDF containing the page content and your additions.
Prepare a clear final PDF
Use a high-quality source PDF and make overlays readable against the page. Place signatures and images carefully, avoid covering printed instructions, and inspect every page before exporting. If a page contains small text, zoom in while editing and then zoom out to confirm the final layout still looks balanced. The editor works in modern browsers and relies on your device to render pages, so performance can vary with PDF length, page complexity, and available memory. Large documents may take longer to open and save.
